Overview
Following the same pattern as the Simple Facebook Connect plugin, this is a plugin to make connecting a WordPress blog to Twitter easy.
Unlike Twitter Tools and other systems, this plugin uses Twitter’s latest authentication mechanisms. No putting in Twitter names or passwords. Clicking the Connect with Twitter button will redirect a user to Twitter for approval, then bring them back to where they came from, only now with their Twitter credentials available for use. Sub-plugins can then make any use of this they like.
Note: This is fully compatible with Simple Facebook Connect, and can even run at the same time as it. Naturally.
Requirements
Currently, WordPress 2.9 or higher and PHP 5. I don’t write code for older versions of WordPress, or obsolete versions of PHP. Sorry.
Features
- Easy to install and use.
- Modular. Only use the pieces you want to use.
- Integrates easily into any theme.
- Simple control panel, only has the options you need for the pieces you activate.
- Secure. Uses the latest WordPress coding techniques to eliminate tricky security problems.
Current sub-modules
- Login using Twitter Credentials
- Comment using Twitter credentials
- Users can auto-tweet their comments
- Tweet button
- Tweetmeme button
- Auto-tweet new posts to an account
- Manual post tweeting
- Full @anywhere support
- Auto-link all twitter names on the site
Future sub-modules
- Pull tweets back in as posts
- (whatever you like, send me suggestions!)
Installation Instructions
- Upload the files to the `/wp-content/plugins/simple-twitter-connect/` directory.
- Activate the base plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
- Configure Twitter for your site by following the instructions on the Settings screen.
- Activate the sub plugins you want to use through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress and configure them appropriately. Some require no configuration at all, some require minor theme changes.
Shortlink note
There’s too darned many shortlink systems out in the world. So, this plugin does not implement shortlinks at all.
Instead, it relies on the new Shortlinks API in WordPress 3.0. Unfortunately, this means that if you’re not running WP 3.0, you won’t see shortlinks appear in your tweets (although Twitter might turn some normal links into bit.ly ones for you).
My advice: Be patient. 3.0 will be released eventually.
Licensing
This plugin is licensed under the GPL Version 2 only.
Method to get support
You can email me directly, however I am also a moderator at the WordPress.org support forums, so you’ll find me there as well.

hi Otto, where can I find the shorcotdes for the different widgets? Some of them are named in the settings/admin page for the overall twitter or facebook base modules … one of the ones I can’t seem to find is the “twitter follow” widget shortcode. thanks!
I haven’t turned that one into a shortcode yet.
Okay, I just added the shortcode code to the trunk version if you’d like to try it out: http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/simple-twitter-connect/trunk/
Use [tweetfollow user="user"] to add a follow button into a post, or stc_follow_button(‘user’); to add one to a theme.
worked beautifully! you rock!
Hi..
How can I get the buttons to appear nice in line? Cause now on my site it’s a bit of a mess..
Hey Otto,
Thanks for the great work on these plugins (this and SFC)! I’ve got the STC TweetMeme button, SFC Like/Share setup and working properly. But I’m having trouble getting the Connect w/ FB and Sign in with Twitter buttons to display (like the ones you have in your comment area). Should these appear automatically when I enable STC/SFC – Comments? Or do I need to manually put calls in my theme? Sorry to ask, I couldn’t find anymore documentation on the plugins than what’s on these pages.
Thanks in advance!
-Michael
Check the readme.txt file, it tells you how to have to modify your theme slightly to make these buttons display.
Will this not work with blogs that require a user to be registered then? Using the same code but placing it under the “you must be logged in to comment” area, I can’t get the STC and SFC buttons to display.
Also, when using the Twitter Connect button that does display on the login page, I get a “Error: Twitter user not recognized” message. On your blog it worked, on mine it didn’t. WP 2.9.2
Actually, by enabling the SFC-Comment and STC-Comment I was able to make them display appropriately (didn’t have them activated because they state “for blogs that allow non-logged in commenting”, but now the connect buttons don’t work. They authorize at FB or Twitter, but then just return and show the button still.
Should we just not use this plugin and find another if we don’t allow non-logged in commenting?
I have a clean install with the latest version of WP 2.9.2 and I’m also getting the same error “Error: Twitter user not recognized”. Ideas?
The error means exactly what it says. You’re trying to log in using Twitter, but you haven’t connected your Twitter account to your WordPress account yet. So it doesn’t recognize the Twitter user you’re using and doesn’t know what account to log you in as.
Log in normally, go to Users->My Profile, and connect your accounts together.
when u suppose to create the ability of sign in with twitter directly? i mean register function?
Twitter doesn’t offer any valid way to get a working email address for a user. So a register function doesn’t make any sense. If you can’t get a valid email from the user, then you can’t have it send them their password and such.
Otto,
Using the WP-FacebookConnect plugin, a user can sign in via Facebook and a username of fbXXXXXX is generated, and a fake email is inserted. Basically, a WP user is created/registered using only their Facebook credentials… and *without* the need for a user to get emailed a password or confirm anything. Even though if a regular user wanted to leave a comment on the site they would have to register and confirm their account (I have a plugin that lets them set their own password).
An ideal “Twitter Connect” plugin would duplicate that functionality. The user simply logs in via Twitter, and is then logged in to WordPress using it.
And now that I mention that, I haven’t seen any Facebook comments on my site since replacing WP-FacebookConnect with Simple Facebook Connect. So I guess the SFC doesn’t do it either?
I know how WP-FacebookConnect works. I wrote SFC specifically because I didn’t like how it works.
Creating a “fake” user that can then only log in via one means is a rather poor way to do things, IMO. If you’re not getting email and other useful information from the user, then why have them register at all? They can leave comments without registering easily enough.
Registering a user only makes sense in order to build a further relationship with that user. For that, you need valid, or at least working, contact information. I’m not going to have it build a user without a valid email in some fashion. Perhaps you can ask the user for their email during the process, and that might be acceptable.
Oh, and SFC has two different modes of operation. If you use SFC-Login and SFC-Register, then it can create WordPress users. If you use SFC-Comment (and edit your theme as required), then people can comment *without* registering on your site.
but how it sign in at comments? I mean that to leafe a reply i can sign in, but at the site cant?
It uses a fake email when it fills in the comments. The email address there isn’t nearly as important since it doesn’t actually try to send email to it.
understand. i heard that they change authorisazion process ande start to use OAuth.
Maybe i`m wrong. But will it helps to solve it?
This plugin already uses OAuth. Always has. Doesn’t help.
Basically, when you create a new WordPress user, WordPress emails the password to the user. Without a valid email address, they’ll never get that password.
but whats a problem do the same as in comment? i mean some fake auth. but if user wants – he will register as usual user?
readme.txt, of course. Thanks! #FAIL #SORRY
Hey, Otto.
Waiting for twitter register opportunity!!!
stay tuned!
not sure what the problem is, but when i try to sign in with twitter to auto publish it is not sticking. In other words i click the button that says sign in with twitter, it goes to twitter and askes if i would like to allow access, i click allow and i still cannot publish to twitter any of my posts before or after i create it. the tweet button is greyed out when i go back to the edit post page.
any ideas what the problem is?
Hey Otto,
Great plugin alongside the FB Connect Plugin.
Current features are great, I’d love the ability to tweet directly from the WordPress Dashboard, and possibly even a new ‘post type’ with WordPress 3 if it’s possible.
Cheers and thanks for the great work.
Hey i was wondering how can i make the link posted on twitter shorted by bit.ly or tinyurl?
If you’re using WordPress 3.0 (which has the new Shortlinks API support built in), then the plugin will recognize that and use whatever shortlinks are being generated. Other plugins have the ability to modify those shortlinks, so it’s possible for a plugin to change the shortlink method to bit.ly and have it automatically get used across the board.
The author of WP Bit.ly has said that he will add support for this: http://mark.watero.us/2010/04/wordpress-3-short-links/ I don’t know if he’s actually done it yet, but if he has, then installing that plugin (and using WP 3.0) will make STC automatically use bit.ly shortlinks, with zero configuration.
You may notice I use wp.me links. These are generated by the WordPress.com Stats plugin and uses the same basic Shortlink API methods.
If you’re not using 3.0 yet, then you can’t easily change the shortlinks.

*Suggestion*
I would like to be able to alter the structure of tweets sent through STC – TweetMeme Button. Because the way it is now, it causes repetition of my site name and wasted characters. It could be better streamlined.
Doesn’t work that way. The format of the tweet itself is not adjustable. More info: http://help.tweetmeme.com/2009/04/06/tweetmeme-button/
Well thats a bummer because I already use the Sexy Bookmarks plugin that allows me to configure the structure of my “tweet this” button as well as utilizing the Twitter Friendly Links plugin for URL shortening (ex. Check this out! ${title} – ${short_link} @RisingTalentTV!)
Perhaps, but that’s not a TweetMeme button, it doesn’t use the TweetMeme service at all.
Okay. Also, im having another issue with commenting. I applied the code to my comments.php and I see both buttons, I can log in with both buttons, but when I fill out my recaptcha and submit I get a 404. Is this an issue with my Recaptcha plugin? Check it out for yourself at ex: http://www.risingtalent.tv/reviews/avatar/
I don’t use captchas and have no idea what your problem could be.
Whew I finally figured out that my issue was caused by a stupid .htaccess security rule I read about. Its all working now. I am curious though, about how I can style the buttons individually like you have here on your comment section. Mine just appear stacked on top of each other.
Styling. In my case, I just set them both to float right on the comment form with this:
#alt-login-methods{
float:right;
}
Check my stylesheet for other things. Every time I put something new on I just add new styling rules to accommodate it.
Hi! I’m having problems with STC – Login. After I made the application according to the instructions, I logged out of WordPress and I got this error message: “ERROR: Twitter user not recognized.”
I tried to sign in with Twitter, I was going through the Twitter sign in pages and when I was getting back to my blog, I was getting the same login screen, with the same error.
I tried to deactivate/reactivate the plugin and changed and updated the application keys. With the new keys, I click the button but is not even taking me to any Twitter page any more and the same error message persist. I tried the process with two Twitter accounts and I’m getting the same errors, on both. What am I doing wrong? Help, please!
Log in to WordPress normally. Then go to Users->My Profile and connect your Twitter account to the WordPress account. Then it will be able to recognize you.
Thanks a lot, Otto! You’re the nicest developer and your plugins are great.
Hey Otto,
Great Plugin, We’re using it on our blog/website and loving it.
I’ve got one question/suggestion, Is it or would it be possible to further customise the tweet output on auto publish as we’re using a fairly custom structure with the way our tweets are, Would love to know if there’s the option to include category and a few other things in there (e.g custom fields).
(If you’d like to reply privately, @mention me on twitter, and I’ll DM you with my email if needed, Cheers)
Cheers!
Adding more fields would be possible, but very difficult to do. Category, for example, is tricky because it’s not a singular thing. A post can be in any number of categories, and it usually is. If you look in stc-publish, in the function “stc_get_default_tweet”, you can see that it just does a string replace with those strings. If you want to add something, that’s the place to do it.
Cheers! Thanks Otto.
I’ll see how i go with that.
How difficult would it be to add the ability geotag/map tweets via the plugin (e.g the iPhone WordPress app allows you to Geotag posts, or a Geotagging WP Plugin)?
I’ve been working on detecting that information and adding it to the tweets automatically. It’s not there yet because I can’t get the damn iPhone app to work properly, so I can’t get valid test data to work. Stupid app crashes every time I put in my blog information. Annoying.
Hmm,
What about with plugins such as WP-Geo that append it as meta tags, e.g
Could that code be harnessed?
I know the iPhone app can be a pain, I’ve had the troubles before. Try removing it, and reinstalling it from the AppStore on the device itself.
Yes, if I knew the format the plugin used, then I could detect and use the Geo data. Unfortunately, there’s no real standard, every geo capable plugin would need to be coded for individually.
I’ve tried everything with the iphone app. It simply doesn’t work for me at all. Highly annoying.
From the research and testing of the different geomapping plguins, I’ve noticed the plugins (maintained plugins – WP Geo, GeoMap) make use of the geo.position, ICBM (together) meta tags.
The “Geolocation” plugin which takes the geodata posted from the mobile apps and adds it into a map at the end of the post (hover over map, code in JQuery on page) doesn’t use the same format, though i suspect with some simple modifiying of the plugin you could output the lat/long variables in wp_head() using the above meta tags.
No no, knowing how the plugin adds the meta tags doesn’t help me. I need to know how the plugin stores the data in WordPress. And each plugin does it differently, there’s no standard.
Meta tags are useless to me. I need the actual data to be able to send it to twitter. Twitter doesn’t come and get it from meta tags.
Great plugin, but I have a small problem — specifically when using IE8 and STC Publish. When I click the “Tweet” button when inside a post, the Twitter login box pops up and says “Logged in as @XXXXX” at the top — however — it says “Connect YYYYY with your @XXXXX account to interact…”. Apparently, it doesn’t recognize my account settings in the STC admin panel. When I click the blue “Connect” button in the pop-up login, it doesn’t post my Tweet — instead it returns to my list of posts (within the pop-up). I’m using WordPress 2.9.1 and the latest version of STC. Also, I should mention that it works fine in the latest version of Firefox. I’ll try this on a 2.9.2 installation and report back. I really hate IE8, but 60% of my site visitors still use it
That’s not a bug, you actually do have to connect it twice. This is because the new Twitter @anywhere functionality doesn’t work the same way as the OAuth stuff does.
However, it shouldn’t open the list of posts in the frame and such. I’ve not seen that and can’t make it happen myself.
I installed and activated this plugin, but when you click sign in with twitter button it takes you to “http://twitter.com/oauth/authorize” page. Twitter gives a pin number and tells you to go back to my site, but there’s nothing to do with this. Any idea why this is doing this?
For example: http://www.wdwfacts.com/?p=71
Doesn’t do that for me. There’s an oauth_token parameter attached to that URL, which means it shouldn’t give you a PIN number. Try clearing your browser cookies.
Thanks for the fast reply Otto. Interesting. I tried clearing cache in Firefox and still same thing. I also tried in IE after clearing cache, same deal. Any other ideas?
I also had someone at another location try it on their computer and they’re getting directed to the same pin number page. They cleared cache and cookies as well.
OH! Okay. You set up your Twitter Application incorrectly. Go back to http://twitter.com/apps and change your application to be “Browser” and not “Client”.
That was it! You rock Otto, thanks so much for your help. The problem was I wasn’t putting in a callback url so it wouldn’t accept browser as my choice (it would automatically switch to client). Have a great day!
Hello,
I’ve tried to install STC Comments but it won’t show up the “sign in with Twitter” button, just outputs “0″, nothing else.
It also considers that I’m logged in, even being d/c from twitter and accessing the page.
I’m using SFC without any problems (and works fine with comments), the only problem is with STC (even with SFC turned off).
Using WP 2.9.2
Try the trunk version of STC. It has a fix for this.
Installed the Trunk Version but after clicking the Twitter bar it leads me to a blank page http://meplaying.de/?stc_oauth_start=1&stcaction=comment&loc=http://meplaying.de/%3Fp%3D1221&type=authenticate here http://meplaying.de/?p=1221 how to fix that?
Sorry for the NooB question, but how would I go about getting the sign in with twitter button to appear directly underneath the facebook connect button in my sidebar? I’m using SFC, STC and your PHP widget. You can view my site here: http://sitandgopro.com/

tx in advance for any help you can give me
Hello,
This is a great plugin, thank you!
I have 2 questions, could you please help me?
1) I couldn’t find instructions on how to make twitter avatars show in the comment.
2) When I signed in on your blog, it says “You are connected with your Twitter account.” above the textarea. On my site nothing happens after signing in.
Thanks in advance!
1. If your theme is using avatars properly, then there’s no special trick to it. Just activating the comments plugin will let users who use Twitter to comment show their Twitter avatars.
2. Did you modify your theme properly, including the DIV, as it tells you to do in the readme? Does your theme have the wp_footer call in it properly so the javascript can be added to the page?
Thanks for quick response!
1. I didn’t have avatars in my theme at all, but I tried the code from this page http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Gravatars and it simply showed the default gravatar. Could you please post the correct code?
2. Yes, looks like everything is set up correctly. By the way, when I came back to your blog today, the “You are connected with your Twitter account.” part was not there. There’s just name/email/website fields filled with my details. The same is on my blog since the time I logged in.
1. Usually this is all you need:
echo get_avatar($comment);But ideally, if your theme is using wp_list_comments(), then there’s no changes to be made at all. Post your themes comments.php on pastebin.com and send me the link, and I’ll show you how to correct it.
2. You don’t necessarily stay logged into Twitter forever.
The fields with your details in them are there because you still had a comment cookie that recognized you. However, because you weren’t logged into Twitter, you didn’t get the hello message. You’ll also note your Twitter avatar didn’t display this time.
Thanks for the help, everything works!
One more thing: What is the STC – Linkify plugin for? I enabled it and nothing happened.
Oh and another thing. Is there a way to show actual usernames (the one that used in the twitter.com/username) instead of Names in comment_author_link?
STC-Linkify automatically links Twitter usernames that it finds on the page to Twitter. So you can just type @ottodestruct or @otto42 and they will be linked to Twitter.
If you look in the stc-comments.php file, towards the bottom, you’ll find this:
$_POST['author'] = $tw->name;If you change it to this:
$_POST['author'] = $tw->screen_name;Hi Otto, I would it be possible for you to help me with this problem?
My comments.php is here: http://pastebin.com/fxYix6Ku

Hi Otto,
A small request for STC – Comments plugin. It would be great to have a url shortner support for sharing the comment on twitter. Something like bit.ly / bitly.pro etc.
Regards,
Riyaz
It does have that, actually, but with the imminent release of WordPress 3.0, I opted to have it use the new built-in Shortlink API support.
Basically, the plugin will use the built in Shortlink API to get and use the shortlink for posts. By default, WordPress 3.0 uses the ?p=xx style of shortlinks, however plugins can modify this easily.
For example, if you have WordPress 3.0 and the WP.COM Stats plugin installed, then the Stats plugin modifies the shortlinks to use the wp.me shortlink system. Simple Twitter Connect will then automatically start using those shortlinks.
The Author of the WP Bit.ly plugin has stated that he will support the new Shortlink API in his plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-bitly/ . If he adds that support, and you were to use his plugin, then you’d find STC automagically using bit.ly shortlinks.
So if you want proper shortlinks:
- Upgrade to 3.0 when it’s available.
- Look for a shortlink plugin that claims to support the “WordPress 3.0 Shortlink API”.
And then Simple Twitter Connect will just automatically know how to use those shortlinks.
Thats great! Cant wait to have WP 3.0
Thanks Otto!
Hello Otto!

Hi Otto,
I was trying out your Twitter Follower Box widget. However, I find that the followers count doesnt update when my followers increase/decrease…appreciate your inputs!
The Follower box has a 24 hour cache on requests to Twitter, so you won’t see new numbers but once a day.
You can change that by adding something like this to your wp-config file:
define('STC_FOLLOWER_CACHE',60*60*24);The time is in seconds, so 60*60*24 = 24 hours.
Thanks Otto
Much appreciate your quick responses
Hi Otto
I have successfully added the STC tweetmeme button to my theme, and now want to use the compact version.
I have not been able to find any info on this. I guess the syntax is something like
stc_tweetmeme_button(array(‘tweetmeme_style’=>’compact’))
Much as SFC Like button works with the followings – sfc_like_button(array(‘layout’=>’button_count’,'action’=>’recommend’))
Can you point me towards info on the parameters for stc_tweetmeme_button. Google and forums and not turning up anything.
Appreciate you advice!
No, the plugin does not support the compact style right now.
Hi Otto,

this happens to me too…
Turn off the WordPress debug mode.
Yes, I know, the code generates lots of notices when you have debug mode on. Those will be fixed eventually. This is not necessarily an error, it’s just what happens when you turn on too much debug information.
If I turn off the WP debugger then I just get redirected to a blank page upon authorisation. I even tried this with a fresh install of wordpress through CPanel and it didn’t work. I’ve turned off all other plugins when doing it as well and still no luck.

Thanks so much for adding the follow widget short code for posts! It was exactly what I was looking for last week! Definitely one of my favorite plugins. Keep up the great work!
can this plugin used in wordpress 2.9.2? coz this doesnt work in my blog. how?
Should work fine with 2.9.2. Shortlinks won’t work, but other than that it’s fine. It does require PHP 5 though.
Hey Otto!
I am having trouble when someone clicks the button I get to the Twitter page that says:
“Woah there!
This page is no longer valid. It looks like someone already used the token information you provided. Please return to the site that sent you to this page and try again … it was probably an honest mistake.”
I’m entering in the correct consumer key and consumer secret from the Twitter application, what is the issue??
You can see what I mean here: http://www.passionbeer.com/2010/06/16/review-bells-kalamazoo-stout/
Thanks!
Usually this sort of thing happens when you get your URL wrong.
The exact URL you’re using matters. If your site has www in it, then the URL you put in the Twitter Application must also have it as well.
This can also cause the “blank page” problem.
Also, your application is set to read-only access. It needs to be read and write. Remove your keys from the settings screen and save, and the instructions for setting up your application will re-appear. Read them, they tell you *exactly* what to do.
Thanks for great plugins!!
use the facebook plugin but want to add the twitter.. but I have a small problem.
then I push twitter connect then allow it, then twitter is redirect back to my site and it stops at a blank page?
I have all correct,
Callback URL: is corrected by the wp admin settins page told me to input.
Application Type: Browser
Default Access type: Read & Write
Use Twitter for login: checked!
so im lost hope you can help me, the facebook plugin works very well!!
I have the exact same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pete
Otto – thank you so much for all your help! I believe I’m on my way!

Love this plugin. im looking for next feature in SFC to works with Bit.ly API so i can track how many people click my post.
STC doesn’t do shortcodes. It leaves that to other plugins. Use a plugin like WP Bit.ly and ask the author to support the new Shortcode API in WordPress 3.0. If he does that, it’ll magically be working with STC, which also uses the Shortcode API.
Hello, Otto,
I really appreciate the thoroughness and usability of your plugins – both STC and SFC! I’m having a couple of problems I hope you can help with. With the STC-follow button widget: I entered the username of my Twitter site, nightlifetaste, in the widget. When I click on the button on the site, I get the message “Can’t follow @nightlifetaste”. Could you clue me in on what setting I have wrong? I’m using 3.0.
Also, when I go to my profile page in WP and click on the “link to Twitter” button, I get a white page.
Thanks in advance for your help.
You can’t follow yourself. Or, if you’re using another account, you’re already following that one.
The “white page” error is most commonly caused by using the wrong URL in your application. The URL that the plugin gives you to use is exact. The lack of a www or the addition of one will not work. You must use the exact URL of your website, not just one that is “close”.
Thank you for your quick response! You are a breath of fresh air.
I went back in and checked the URL and it looked fine, so I didn’t change anything. But this time it did connect with twitter, and everything looks to have set up beautifully!
Hi,
Hooked up Facebook plugger and think it’s great. No problems.
Love the Twitter idea and happy to see future development.

Hi,
Great Plugin !!!!
Everything works fine except that I can’t see picture of my followers.
I see only the count..
Do you have an idea please ?
Spectacular!
Is there by chance an addition to pull tweets (specifically, @replies) into the WP dashboard to be replied to?
Just added a Dashboard widget as per this tut – http://www.riyaz.net/blog/now-tweet-directly-from-your-wordpress-dashboard/blogging/905/ – Very impressed. Just wish there were a conversation manager portion.
Hi Otto – I’m getting a 404 error as soon as I click on the “Connect with Twitter” button on my page, banging my head about it – Any ideas?
Otto – is there a reason why the @ sign is not included when Twitter usernames are linked? Just curious because they are a part of that Twitter handle as much as the username is.
Thanks for a great plugin.
If you are talking about the Linkify plugin, then that’s just how Twitter’s own @anywhere code works. I have no control over that.
I just wanted to restate a comment left by Phillip above because I have the same problem:
“Thanks for great plugins!!
use the facebook plugin but want to add the twitter.. but I have a small problem.
then I push twitter connect then allow it, then twitter is redirect back to my site and it stops at a blank page?
I have all correct,
Callback URL: is corrected by the wp admin settins page told me to input.
Application Type: Browser
Default Access type: Read & Write
Use Twitter for login: checked!
so im lost hope you can help me, the facebook plugin works very well!!”
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Pete
Hi Otto,
I’m trying to implement your “Simple Twitter Connect” plugin. Awesome idea and I’d love to be able to get it working.
I enabled the base and comments plugins. I added the Consumer Key and Secret.
I enabled registration.
Check it out here… http://jackreichert.net/blog/2010/07/12/lorem-ipsum/#reply-title
I can’t seem to get it working. It redirects back and I get a blank page. Once it redirected back to the site, but didn’t log me in for commenting…
Any ideas what might be wrong? Is the problem connected with the fact that wordpress 3.0 requires emails with new registration? I see it working on his site. Would love a point in the right direction please.
Hello Otto,
i’ve installed the base plugin, registered app on twitter, modified my template (the botton is just like this one u have in your web), activated the plugin to comment via twitter but… i see an error:
http://www.luciocolavero.com/?stc_oauth_start=1&stcaction=comment&loc=http://www.luciocolavero.com/2010/07/12/lademocrazia-it-parliamo-di-comunicazione-politica-2-0/&type=authenticate
and the url is this one:
http://www.luciocolavero.com/?stc_oauth_start=1&stcaction=comment&loc=http://www.luciocolavero.com/2010/07/12/lademocrazia-it-parliamo-di-comunicazione-politica-2-0/&type=authenticate
the web page is closed, i am working on it, i just opened it to thes the app.
may you help me?
thanks!
lucio
sorry.. the error that i can see in my page is this:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class OAuthSignatureMethod_HMAC_SHA1 in /web/htdocs/www.luciocolavero.com/home/wp-content/plugins/simple-twitter-connect/OAuth.php on line 82
Do you have any other plugins that use OAuth? It may not be compatible because of the duplication.
i think it was tweetmeme, now i just don’t see that error. appears the twitter page, I allow and it redirects me nack to my blog. But it is like nothing happened… don’t see me to be authenticated and i don’t see my twitter avatar
Hi Otto,
Love the concept, having trouble implementing it. I’m using a WP3 network site. I followed the instructions for setting it up in the readme.txt file, but when twitter redirects back, I get a blank page. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Thanks for your great plugin.
Unfortunately, a lot of things can cause this. Usually it’s some other plugin that is conflicting or erroring out in some way. Your host might not support PHP sessions, which are necessary for the twitter plugin. There’s no easy way to tell. You can try turning on WP_DEBUG and seeing if you get any useful error messages.

I have idea about implementing the registration with twitter account. After we redirect back from twitter’s site, we prompted to input username and email as usual registration process. And so, we still have valid email and username to create new user account, which is connected to twitter account.
For example, see this > http://www.kaskus.us/kaskusaccess.php. (but this site using vBulletin)
How about this idea? Thanks!
It would be possible to fill in the users name, but not the email. So it really wouldn’t be doing a whole heck of a lot there.
But I’ll look into it.
Hey Otto, I was just wondering today why your Linkify plugin doesnt include the “@” in the Link it creates. Personally, I’d prefer it because for a viewer it separates a standard site link from a Twitter link on a quick once over of a page.
Not my choice. The Linkify plugin just uses Twitter’s @anywhere code, as is. All the plugin really does is insert the necessary javascript onto the page. Twitter’s own javascript does the linkification, and they chose not to linkify the @ signs.
Thanks. I figured as much, youre a smart guy. If theres a way, youre usually on top of it.
